RICS is delighted to invite you to a CPD run on Managing Troubled Projects: Prevention is Cure, which will be held on 7 August 2019 at B303, The Design House, Al Sufouh Gardens, Dubai.
The seminar examines findings from a comprehensive study on major causes of disputes in construction projects. In doing so, it provides insight on common dispute causation factors, underscores the complexity of causation, and proposes a way forward for better dispute management and avoidance.
Upon completion, the attendees will:
- Identify the most common causes of disputes on major projects;
- Distinguish primary from secondary causes of disputes;
- Appreciate the importance of setting out procedures and protocols to manage dispute causation factors at an early stage; and
- Understand how improved information management can provide wide ranging benefits in the management and avoidance of disputes

About the Speaker
Yasir Kadhim is a Director at HKA, a global provider of consulting, expert and advisory services for the construction and engineering industry. He regularly provides advice on matters of delay and disruption to employers, contractors and legal representatives. Yasir comes from a civil engineering and general contracting background, holds master’s degrees in civil engineering and construction law, is an accredited mediator and member of numerous professional institutes, and is a frequent speaker in industry seminars.
During his career, Yasir has been engaged in diverse and high-profile domestic and international disputes acting as claims advisor, assistant to experts appointed in international arbitration, and providing expert advice on matters of delay in litigation. The projects he has been involved in range in value from USD 10’s million to USD 6 billion and include residential and commercial developments (hotels, malls, and offices), power projects (fossil fuel and nuclear), industrial projects, sewer networks, infrastructure and transportation (roads, bus hubs and bridges), and oil-&-gas projects. Yasir’s geographical experience spans Canada, the Middle East and South Asia.
